Biography

Deepak Chopra was born in the Indian capital, Delhi. His father's Dr. KL Chopra was a doctor at Moolchand Hospital, Delhi. Deepak Chopra received his twelfth degree from St. Columbus School and Sthanak from All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi. After graduating in 1969, he moved to the US in 1970 with his wife Rita Chopra. There he did an internship at New Jersey Hospital. After that he trained in many other hospitals. In 1973, he was licensed for medical training in Manchester. In 2004, he was licensed in the state of California.

He worked at Chopra Tufts University and Boston University School of Medicine. He also established a private clinic.

In 1981, he became the speaker of Transdental Meditation after meeting Dr. Vaidya Brihaspati Dev Triguna, Doctor of Ayurveda in Delhi. In 1996, he founded the Chopra Center in California with Dr. David Simone. In 2004, Deepak Chopra wrote the script of a film on Gautam Buddha and asked Shekhar Kapur to direct it but for some reasons the matter did not go ahead.

In 2006, he, along with his sons Gautam Chopra and Richard Branson, founded Vargin Kamix, which promotes the arts and culture of South Asia through comics.

Creations

Many of Deepak Chopra's ideas are found in his first book, Creating Health, which was published in 1986. He advocates meditation a lot and talks about building a relationship between mind and body.



Through his books and videos, he has become one of the best-known and wealthiest figures in alternative medicine.

Chopra studied medicine in India before returning to the United States in 1970, where he took up residence in internal medicine and endocrinology. As a licensed physician, he became the chief of staff in 1980 at New England Memorial Hospital (NEEH). He met Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 1985 and joined the Transcendental Meditation Movement (TM). He resigned his post shortly to establish the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center. Chopra gained the following in 1993 after being interviewed on The Oprah Winfrey Show about her books. He then left the TM movement to become executive director of the Sharp Healthcare Center for Head-Body Medicine and in 1996 he founded the Chopra Center for Wellbeing.

Chopra believes that a person can achieve "total health", a condition that is "free from disease, never hurts" and "she cannot age or die".
