How to prepare for public speaking?
PREPARATION is must for public speaking. A well prepared speech is already nine- tenth delivered. And the one fatal mistake that many do is to neglect their preparation. If you want confidence, why not do the things necessary to bring it about? Everyone needs a good preparation before any speech whether it is president of the country, professional speaker, student or you. So always have a perfect preparation for your performance.
What does a good preparation mean to you ?
A good preparation or speech is not referred as writing the texts and phrases in a notebook and then memorising them by heart. It is referred to dig out something from your own ore, that is, from your own mind.
The right way to prepare-
Here are few things you should always remember when you are preparing for your speech-
1. Never copy: you can read articles or books related to your topic but always select only your own thoughts and views in your speech. Present the only ore you dug out of your own mine. You should learn from your competitors but never copy them. Once you copy and you die.
2. Collect: assemble your thoughts, ideas, convictions and urges. Collect them from your conversations, thinking, recalling, dreams, feelings and experience. Select the ones that appeal to you most, polish them, arrange them into a pattern and this is your own view. Sounds difficult?? But it's just requires little concentration and thinking to a purpose.
3. Avoid: Never make the universal mistake of trying to cover too much ground in a brief talk. Just take one or more angles of a subject. If you try to cover too much then the depth of the subject won't be clear and may not excite the listeners.
4. Advance: Determine your subject in advance so that you will have time to think over it in odd moments. Think about it while walking, waiting or bathing. Whenever you get stuff about it, write it anywhere on the spot in case you forget. This will be your advance cooperation towards your speech.
5. Audience: Study your audience. Prepare for your speech while thinking about the wishes of the people you are going to address. Analyse the type of audience and create your stuff according to that. Make sure that you do not bore people with an inappropriate content.
6. Mention: Tell the stories of people without mentioning their names. Relate your early struggles, your defeats, your hopes, your triumphs. Or tell about the people with whom you come in contact- the honest and dishonest ones. Tell of your problems and how you deal with them. This would make your audience understand the stuff with clarity.
7. Read: While preparation, read books, magazines, articles or similar stuff related to your topic. Ensure that you have complete knowledge about the topic you are going to discuss even if you don't mention everything. But don't read until you have your thoughts clear in your mind otherwise the stuff you will create will not be yours.
8. Discard: Collect more and more information as you can. When you bring ten thoughts in your mind then choose the best one and discard other nine. When you prepare the best, it will bring effects on your mind, heart and whole manner of speaking. This is the most important but usually being ignored.
